We are two parents with two kids under three and a habit of leaving the house before we have fully thought it through.
We are Thomas and Alexis. Married, raising two kids under three, based in Utah, and out the door most weekends. Monday through Friday we work regular day jobs. The rest of the time we are packing, driving, filming, or unpacking.
SimplyWalkingshaw started because the trips kept outgrowing the camera roll. We wanted our kids to grow up with proof of a childhood spent outside, so we started cutting the clips into short films. Then other families began telling us the videos got them off the couch and out the door, and that changed everything. It stopped being a scrapbook and became the thing we want to build our life around.
We leave with a general idea and figure out the rest from there. Sometimes we know exactly where we are headed and what we want to see. Most of the time we pick a spot that looked good on a map and go. With two kids under three, everyone tells us that is the wrong way to do it. We think it is the best part.
What we film is intentional. We go in with shots we want, hooks we are chasing, and a story we want to tell. But you cannot hand a script to two kids under three, so the plan bends, the day happens, and the honest version ends up better than anything we could have staged.
If you are a parent looking at your weekend and thinking it is too hard to go anywhere right now, that is exactly who this is for. It is hard. We go anyway, every chance we get, and we film it so you can see what is possible.
Day jobs today.
Creating full time, someday.
We build SimplyWalkingshaw in the margins: nap times, late nights, long drives home with everyone asleep in the back. The dream is to flip that. To tell these stories full time, take you along for every mile of it, and show our kids that a life you love is something you go build, not something you wait for.
Short films for now. Longer YouTube videos are on the way to tell the full story of every trip, with the highlights and lowlights cut down for everywhere else.
Nothing here is staged, but nothing is random either. We shoot with a story in mind and let the day fill in the details. If a trip goes sideways, that is part of the story. So is the view that made it worth the drive.
We shoot on the move, edit with intention, and post it while it still feels like it happened. Not a highlight reel. Not a blooper reel. The whole day, told honestly.
Either way, you know where we will be.
The trips, as they happen. Kids optional, views guaranteed.
